Amara's Law, enacted in Minnesota, establishes a comprehensive ban on the non-essential use of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in consumer products.

Implementation Timeline

  • January 1, 2025:  The product categories of carpets and rugs, cleaning products, cookware, cosmetics, dental floss, fabric treatments, products for children under 12 (except electronics), menstruation products, textile furnishings, ski wax, and upholstered furniture must be free of intentionally added PFAS.
  • January 1, 2032: A complete ban on all non-essential uses of PFAS will be implemented, unless deemed unavoidable by the MPCA
