For the second session of the Yale Global Green Chemistry Accelerator’s Global Mentor Conversations Series, Haydn Palliser, Principal at Pivotal180, joined as guest speaker. A globally recognized expert in financial modeling and project finance, Haydn shared practical insights on:
- What makes a financial model effective from both investor and founder perspectives.
- The key elements to prioritize when building or reviewing a model.
- How to design models that serve as both investor-ready tools and internal resources for strategic decision-making and forecasting.
The session was moderated by Matthew Moroney, Director of Startups & Mentors for the Global GreenChem Accelerator.
About Haydn Palliser:
With over 15 years of industry experience, Haydn began his career as an engineer at New Zealand’s largest professional services firm, advising on construction contracts and renewable energy projects. After earning a Master’s in Applied Finance from Macquarie University in Australia, he built his career in project finance as a financial advisor, consultant, and modeler.
He has led cross-border project finance deals, performed asset valuations, and become widely regarded for his expertise in financial modeling and analysis. His work spans infrastructure, renewable energy, power generation, mining, and oil and gas. Haydn has taught financial modeling to professionals at top firms and students from Wharton, MIT, Harvard, Chicago Booth, Columbia, and the University of Michigan.
Throughout his career, he has advised on major renewable energy projects such as Desertec and Project Gemini, as well as regional biomass projects across the U.S. Before joining Pivotal180, he served as Managing Director at Corality and Co-Head of Infrastructure and Energy for Mazars in the Americas.
