Greener Solutions Final Presentations

Description

Monday, December 9th, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM, followed by lunch, at 1104 Berkeley Way West, UC Berkeley.

Greener Solutions is a unique, interdisciplinary graduate course bringing together graduate students from chemistry, engineering, public health and environmental science to partner with leading technology companies and major consumer brands on real-world challenges in chemical design, materials innovation, and sustainability. Over the semester, students develop science-based strategies for designing safer, more sustainable chemical and material alternatives, grounded in the principles of green chemistry. Many of these projects continue in the form of internships, product reformulations or new products!

This year’s projects include safer alternatives for:
• Melamine–formaldehyde magic sponge materials
• Petrochemical-based plastic packaging
• Hazardous VOC-emitting solvent systems
• Epoxy-resin printed circuit board materials
• Long-term fire-retardant formulations

Chemists interested in sustainable chemistry, product stewardship, and the translation of chemical innovation into industry impact will find this an engaging and relevant event.
