A Post-doctoral Research Fellowship (BIPD) (Reference REQUIMTE 2026-07) on the MARECIRCULARIS - “Biorefinaria de resíduos marinhos: plataformas bioativas para uma indústria cosmética circular”, with reference COMPETE2030-FEDER-00814400, operation no. 16862, funded by FEDER funds (COMPETE 2030) and national funds by FCT/MECI, is available at REQUIMTE (Portugal).
Admission requirements:
The candidates must hold a PhD in Chemistry Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar scientific areas, obtained in the previous three years to the date of submission of the application, and have proven experience in biorefinery, catalytic processes and bio-derived materials.
The host institution where the research work was developed that led to the attribution of the candidate's doctoral degree must be different from Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde - Tecnologias e Processos Limpos.
In case the doctorate degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12th, and all formalities established therein must be complied until the signature of the contract.
Workplan: In the framework of the MareCircularis project, the work plan aims to develop a biorefinery process to recover value-added products from marine waste, combining chemical (catalytic)/enzymatic/mechanical processes.
Development of processes for the extraction and conversion of chitin into N-derivatives; characterisation of the products obtained using advanced techniques (UV-Vis, HPLC, 1H and 13C NMR, SEM, FTIR, XRD, etc.).

Work Place: The work will be conducted at Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto, under the supervision of Andreia Filipa Ribeiro de Oliveira Peixoto
Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have duration of 12 months, potentially renewable for an additional period of 6 months, up to 18 months, expected to start on 1st March of 2026.
Monthly stipend:
Monthly stipend is €1.851 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.p…). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.
