Job duties
We are looking for a research assistant for two Formas-funded interdisciplinary projects on a chemical-safe circular economy:
- TRACE AI – Transparent and Accessible Information for a Chemically Safe Circular Economy, which develops AI and data-driven approaches for improved chemicals information, and
- Global Governance Innovation for Chemical Safety in Circular Value Chains, which analyzes governance, fairness and risk shifting in global value chains.
The work is conducted at Environment for Development and is carried out in close collaboration with other universities, research institutes and non-governmental organizations.
The duties include, among other things:
Data collection and analysis
- Conduct and analyze surveys and interviews with authorities, companies and civil society organizations.
- Compile and analyze policy documents, information from databases and scientific literature.
- Participate in case studies in plastics, textiles or food contact materials.
Policy analysis
- Mapping governance innovations in chemicals policy and circular economy with a particular focus on global value chains.
- Conduct scenario analyses and visualization of complex interactions between chemical regulations, circular material flows and policy processes.
Project coordination and research communication
- Organize and document workshops, online meetings and dialogue processes.
- Contribute to the writing of reports, articles, policy briefs and other research communication.
- Collaborate with international and national actors.
You will collaborate closely with the research leader and with other researchers in the various projects.
Qualifications
The successful applicant should have the following qualifications:
- A master's degree or nearly completed master's degree
- Excellent knowledge of Swedish and English as working languages, both written and oral
- Experience in data collection and analysis (qualitative and/or quantitative).
- Good analytical skills, documented in written project/degree work and/or in publications in scientific journals.
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with researchers and external partners.
Merits taken into account are:
- A master's degree in economics, political science, environmental science or equivalent
- Experience with interviews, surveys, focus groups or stakeholder dialogues.
- Experience working with chemicals issues, environmental policy or circular economy.
- Knowledge of AI-related text analysis, data mining or other AI-based tools and their application in research environments.
- Experience working in an academic environment (e.g. as a research assistant)
- Familiarity with tools such as R, Stata, Excel or equivalent.
- Experience in facilitating workshops or project coordination.
- Experience of international work and multidisciplinary environments.

Employment
The position is a fixed-term employment (special fixed-term employment) of 100% for eleven months with placement at Environment for Development), School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg. Entry into the position is 2026-03-01 or by agreement. Appointment procedure Interviews will be conducted on site, but in exceptional cases Teams or Zoom may also be an alternative.

Environment for Development
Environment for Development (EfD) is a unit at the Gothenburg School of Economics. EfD is a global network of research centers in environmental economics primarily based in the global south. The network is coordinated by the unit. The overall goal of EfD is to support poverty reduction and sustainable development by building environmental economics capacity and linking this to policy processes. EfD has centers at academic institutions in Central America, Chile, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Kenya, China, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam.
