Bio-degradable Color Pigments from Plant-based Cellulose

Over 10,000 fossil-based chemicals are used in current colouration processes. Sparxell has developed the world’s first 100% natural, high-performance biodegradable colour platform.  Sparxell's mission is to eliminate toxic chemicals from colouration and provide businesses with sustainable, low-carbon and performant alternatives to traditional coloured materials including fine powders, pearls and glitter, films, foils and ribbons as well as special formats like sequins.

Key features of product:

  • 100% plastic free
  • 100% Mica and Titanium free
  • Inspired by nature

Through a patented technique, Sparxell extracts cellulose crystals from plant-based waste streams and assembles it into a film that reflects light and color over a substantial area, mimicking the vibrant hues found in nature creating biodegradable color pigments, glitters, sequins, and films.

Textile industry is a well-known emitter of dyes and microplastics, with over 1.5m tonnes entering the environment every year, while paint has recently been recognized as the largest source of microplastics in the ocean.  Sparxell’s plant-based materials can be grown and sourced locally in a complete rethink of how colors are currently being manufactured while reducing transport emissions.
