In the marine and aviation segments oil consumption is projected to increase over 80% by 2050. Low carbon liquid fuels that can directly replace the currently used fossil fuels are urgently needed to meet the 2030 targets. XFuel has developed a breakthrough, scalable, low-cost conversion technology to produce high-grade transportation fuel from organic waste material for applications in road, marine, aviation sectors.
XFuel's two proprietary conversion technologies produce high-grade transportation fuel from all types of scalable waste material:
- Chemical liquid refining (CLR) that purifies and cracks waste hydrocarbon oils and residues into ultra clean drop-in transport fuels.
- Mechanical Carbon Conversion (MECC) which co-processes lignocellulosic biomass and waste oil producing marine fuels and biochar.
Key features of technology:
- 85% fewer GHG emissions than conventional fossil fuels
- Cost-competitive with fossil fuels eliminating need for subsidies or ROCs to make business case
- Higher Cetane number, i.e. less fuel required to produce same amount of energy
- Compliance with EN590 and ASTM certifications
- Decentralized and off-grid operation with ability to process diverse range of feedstock
- Compatible with existing combustion engines and fuel infrastructure
- Patented efficient one-step process using less energy
- Scalable production capacity
