UK-based startup Biomr produces plastic-free high-performance coatings made from renewable organic sources for the fashion industry creating textile finishes that fully eliminate chemicals (PFAS) while maintaining durability and effectiveness.
These coatings are free from synthetic plastics and environmentally harmful polyurethanes utilising biopolymers and inorganic minerals derived from agricultural waste and less water and energy. The startup makes omniphobic coatings that repel water and adapt to repel oil-based liquids, utilising nanotechnology inspired by the lotus effect. These finishes integrate with existing manufacturing processes to make them plug-and-play for producers working with cellulose and protein-based fibres.
Key features of product:
- Uses natural agricultural waste as feedstock eliminating petroleum based plastics and forever chemicals
- Compatible with existing scalable manufacturing processes. It has been optimised for cellulose and protein-based fibres.
Nanotechnology-based coating can repel water (biomimetic to the lotus effect) and in principle can be adapted to repel oil-based liquids.
