ChemHAT is a free, internet-based database that provides accessible chemical hazard information to help workers, families, and communities protect themselves from harmful chemical exposures.

Built on the principle that knowledge drives protective action, ChemHAT goes beyond traditional exposure controls. Rather than asking "What PPE or engineering controls are needed to make exposure 'safe'?", ChemHAT is designed to answer a more fundamental question: "Is there a way to get this job done without known hazardous chemicals?"

Using the hierarchy of controls as its framework, ChemHAT helps users first identify hazardous chemicals, then explore opportunities to eliminate or substitute them with safer alternatives or process changes. The tool currently allows users to quickly assess whether a chemical poses a health hazard — the critical first step in any substitution strategy.

The platform is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.
