Brazil’s Law 14.250 focuses on the proper disposal of PCB-contaminated items such as electrical insulating fluids, heat transfer fluids, lubricating fluids, adhesives, oil-based plants, and plastics. PCBs pose significant health risks, including cancer, reproductive harm, immune system suppression, and environmental damage. The law enforces controlled disposal of PCBs and their waste, as well as the decontamination and disposal of transformers, capacitors, and other PCB-contaminated electrical equipment. It aims to mitigate these risks by ensuring environmentally sound management and disposal, complementing the Stockholm Convention and Decree No. 5.472 (June 20, 2005).
