This website is owned by The American Chemical Society (“ACS”), 1155 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036. These Terms of Use and Legal Disclosures (collectively referred to as “Terms”) describe the terms and conditions applicable to any person (“User”) who accesses, uses or visits this Green Chemistry for Sustainability (“GCS”) site (www.chemistryforsustainability.org) and any related platforms (collectively, the “GCS platforms”) please read the following Terms carefully.
BY VISITING, USING OR INTERACTING WITH GCS PLATFORMS, INCLUDING ALL CONTENT AVAILABLE THROUGH GCS PLATFORMS, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT YOU ARE BOUND BY THESE TERMS AND ANY CHANGES TO THESE TERMS FROM TIME TO TIME. ACS MAY ALSO CHANGE OR DISCONTINUE ANY GCS PLATFORMS OR ANY SERVICES AND INFORMATION AVAILABLE ON GCS PLATFORMS AT ANY TIME, AND MAY ALSO BLOCK OR DISCONTINUE YOUR USE OF GCS PLATFORMS FOR ANY REASON. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS, PLEASE DO NOT USE GCS PLATFORMS. PLEASE NOTE: ACS MAY REQUIRE YOU TO REGISTER TO PERFORM CERTAIN FUNCTIONS AND ACCESS CERTAIN AREAS OF GCS PLATFORMS.
1. Ability to Accept Terms
1.1. In exchange for your access to, use of, interaction with GCS platforms and the available Content (as defined below in Section 2), you agree: (a) to use GCS platforms in accordance with the terms and conditions of these Terms; (b) that all information you provide or submit, if any, is truthful and accurate and that you are responsible for maintaining the accuracy of your information; (c) that you will not submit any personal information or use GCS platforms if you are under 13 years of age; and (d) that you will not use GCS platforms in a manner that violates any applicable law or regulation, to harass others, or to spread misinformation.
1.2. All Users who register for GCS platforms hereby agree that they are at least 18 years of age or older at the time their account is created. Users under the age of 18 are not eligible to register for GCS platforms. it is the responsibility of the Users to ensure they meet the age requirements outlined above. Any User found to be in violation of these Terms of eligibility will have their account deleted. ACS will be held harmless from all liability and any indemnification obligations related to use of GCS platforms by all Users, including Users who are under the age of 18 but claim to be otherwise.
2. Use of Content on GCS Platforms
2.1. The content on GCS platforms includes, but is not limited to, text, data, graphics, images, photographs, illustrations, maps, trademarks, tradenames, service marks, logos, information, methodologies, processes, tools, advice, and other materials made available through or from GCS platforms (collectively, “Content”).
2.2. GCS platforms consists of collaboration-based Content, including User-generated and contributed Content from ACS’s partnerships with third parties. Content available through partnerships with third parties may have additional terms and conditions or other policies about assess and use of their respective websites and content. Your access to or use of any third-party materials is subject to the respective third-party policies.
2.3. Copyrighted material should be contributed to GCS platforms via link or references to such Content, but not copied without permission. Contributions must comply with all copyright laws and applicable regulations at all levels (including but not limited to, municipal, state/provincial/territorial, federal, and international levels). Any Content suspected or found to be in violation of any copyright laws and/or regulations may be removed by ACS at their discretion without prior notice to the contributing Users. Users also cannot pass off or claim information as their own that is the property or original work of someone else (whether copyrighted or not), i.e., Users must cite their sources and refrain from plagiarism. Any Users found in violation of these rules, laws, and/or regulations at any level will be subject to the appropriate consequential action, including but not limited to removal of said content from GCS platforms, temporary deactivation of a User’s account, and/or permanent deactivation or deletion of a User’s account. In certain cases, legal action may be required, and Users accept that. ACS will be held harmless from all liability and indemnification related to User-contributed Content to GCS platforms. It is the responsibility of Users to ensure they abide by these Terms and all applicable laws and regulations.
2.4. You may not use Content in any manner that implies, suggests, or could otherwise be perceived as attributing a political objective, motive or opinion to ACS.
3. Content Ownership on GCS Platforms
3.1. Any User Content submitted to GCS platforms remains the property and responsibility of said User. By posting such Content, Users agree that such Content is not confidential, and ACS can make the Content available on the platform for access by other Users. By submitting Content of any kind, Users automatically grant to other Users a full, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, transmit, perform, and display the Content (in whole or in part).
3.2. Users acknowledge and accept the risk that the Content may be reproduced, mixed, adapted or claimed elsewhere by others without proper reference or acknowledgment of ownership to Users. ACS will be held harmless from all liability and any indemnification obligations related to such loss of licensing or protection.
3.3. In the case where the Content is not owned by the User, but the User is contributing said Content to the GCS platforms, the User must reference or acknowledge the original author, publisher, and/or owner of the Content when submitted for inclusion on GCS platforms, in accordance with the attribution requirements of the original author, publisher and/or owner. This applies to all applicable Content, including but not limited to learning objects, forum posts, linked journal articles, and blog posts. By contributing Content to GCS that a User does not own, said user is warranting that they are in compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and requirements including the copyright and/or licensing requirements of the Content by the original author(s), publisher(s), and/or owner(s). Users are responsible for clearance of all necessary rights and permissions for any Content they post to GCS platforms.
3.4. In the case of co-authored or co-contributed Content on GCS platforms that is original work by the submitting Users, said Users co-own said Content (even if only one User submits the Content on behalf of all Users) and maintain the licensing rights to said Content as per these Terms and any applicable licenses.
3.5. Notwithstanding the foregoing, all text, metadata, user interfaces and visual interfaces (including graphics, photographs, sounds, music, and artwork), trademarks, logos, computer code, and any and all compilations thereof (collectively, “GCS Content”), including but not limited to the design, structure, selection, coordination, expression, look and feel, and arrangement of GSC Content, is owned, controlled, or licensed by or to ACS, and is protected by trade dress, copyright, and trademark laws, and is subject to various other intellectual property rights. Except as expressly provided in this agreement, you are prohibited from copying, reproducing, modifying, distributing, displaying, performing, or transmitting any of the GCS Content for any purpose, and nothing otherwise stated or implied in GCS platforms confer Users any license or right to do so.
3.6. “American Chemical Society”, “ACS”, “ACS Green Chemistry Institute”, and “Green Chemistry for Sustainability”, “GCS” and all other product or service names, slogans, and logos that may be displayed on GCS platforms are proprietary marks and may not be copied, imitated, or used, in whole or in part, without ACS’s prior written permission. In addition, the look and feel of GCS platforms, including but not limited to all custom graphics and button icons, are proprietary to ACS and may not be copied, imitated, or used without ACS’s prior written permission.
4. Links to and From GCS Platforms
4.1. GCS platforms may contain links to third party websites that are not owned or controlled by ACS, and such links should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any organization, company, content or products to which the GCS platforms links. Links from GCS platforms are provided as a reference only, and for convenience and/or for informational purposes; they do not indicate endorsement, sponsorship of, or affiliation with the third party or content of the linked website, including any advertisements that may be posted, nor do they imply any endorsement of the third party’s practices or any association with their operators.
4.2. ACS has no control over and bear no responsibility for the accuracy, legality, or content of the externally linked sites. Privacy policies and practices for such linked sites may differ from these Terms (and privacy notices contained therein). Users are solely responsible for the proper function, spelling and use of said links within their submitted and published Content and are encouraged to read the privacy notices and terms and conditions of such sites before sharing the links in their submitted and published Content. Users agree to present any links in a manner that does not convey the impression that ACS, whether expressly or implicitly, endorses any products, services, or opinions provided through said link or website.
4.3. Use of any linked third-party content is at the User’s own risk. Removing or altering the copyright notice on any Content on GCS platforms is prohibited. Other product and company names mentioned in GCS platforms may be the trademarks of their respective owners.
5. Prohibited Conduct
5.1. ACS encourages open and sincere communication but urges Users to remember that GCS platforms are intended to be a resource for all Users. Users may not access or use, or attempt to access or use, GCS platforms to take any action that could harm ACS or any third party, interfere with the operation of GCS platforms or use GCS platforms in a manner that violates any laws, the GCS Code of Conduct or these Terms.
5.2. Users may not post or transmit any of the following materials on GCS platforms:
5.2.1. Anything that interferes with or disrupts any GCS platforms or the operation thereof;
5.2.2. Statements about candidates for political office;
5.2.3. Statements or material that is illegal, offensive, defames, harasses, abuses, stalks, threatens, or in any way infringes on the rights of any person;
5.2.4. Unauthorized copyrighted materials or any other material that infringe the intellectual property rights, trade secrets, or privacy of another;
5.2.5. Statements or material that violates other contractual or fiduciary rights, duties, or agreements;
5.2.6. Statements or material that encourages criminal conduct or that would give rise to civil liability or otherwise violates any law or regulation in any jurisdiction;
5.2.7. Statements or material that contains vulgar, obscene, profane, or otherwise objectionable language or images that typically would not be considered socially or professionally responsible or appropriate in person;
5.2.8. Statements or material that impersonates any other person or entity, whether actual or fictitious, including employees and representatives of ACS;
5.2.9. Anything that violates the privacy or publicity rights of any other person;
5.2.10. Statements or material that are off-topic, irrelevant, or inappropriate, or which spread misinformation;
5.2.11. Statements or material that constitute junk mail, spam, or unauthorized advertising or promotional materials; and
5.2.12. Files that contain malicious code, viruses, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programs that may damage the operation of another's computer, network, or GCS platforms.
5.3. Users are solely responsible for the Content submitted on GCS platforms. ACS has the right, but does not assume the responsibility, for monitoring GCS platforms for inappropriate Content.
5.4. Violations of system or network security may result in civil or criminal liability. ACS may investigate and work with law enforcement authorities to prosecute Users who violate these Terms.
6. Privacy Statement
6.1. By using GCS platforms, you consent to ACS’s processing of your information consistent with GCS’s Privacy Statement.
6.2. Data provided to GCS platforms by Users is available and/or visible to non-registered Users (anonymous visitors) through GCS platforms. However, some data may only be visible to other registered Users (e.g., downloadable content from learning objects), while other data may only be visible to ACS, its partners, and to Users who created/uploaded the data (e.g., demographic data). There are several different types of privacy, access and visibility settings depending on the type of User group. Users are responsible for understanding which type of group they are interested in creating and/or joining and the associated privacy, access and visibility settings for that group. Users may also choose to allow or not allow other Users and anonymous visitors to view their email on their respective User profiles in order to be able to contact them (this option can be toggled on and off through a User’s dashboard and can be first indicated in the new User registration form).
6.3. All Content provided by Users is potentially visible to both other GCS platforms Users and to anonymous visitors to GCS platforms. In some instances, data may be restricted and only accessible to certain Users, including those with specific roles. This may also include specific groups with specified privacy settings that prevent anonymous visitors or other users to view or access the group content within the group. Users agree not to post or store on any confidential information on GCS platforms for which a User is obligated to, or is reasonably expected to, protect.
7. Storage of Data
7.1. All data submitted by Users will be stored in the combined Drupal/CiviCRM system of GCS platforms which is hosted and maintained by Skvare LLC and administered by ACS. The following security features are present in the system:
7.1.1. Fully managed cloud LEMP (Linux, Nginx, MySQL, PHP) infrastructure
7.1.2. Fastcgi cache, Opcache and Memcached for ultimate performance
7.1.3. SSL digital certificate installation, management, and automated renewals
7.1.4. Security updates and maintenance of Drupal core minor releases and contributed modules
7.1.5. Security updates and maintenance of all hosting infrastructure
7.1.6. Security, virus and malware scanning
7.1.7. Automated backups stored in multiple regions for prompt disaster recovery
7.2. Data provided by Users to GCS platforms will be stored in the Drupal/CiviCRM system permanently unless the User makes a written request to delete their data. Only the original owner of the data can make a request to delete their own data, which requires a written request sent to the site administrators from the email on file for the User as well as confirmation of their username and password by email. Content that has been co-created by Users will require confirmation from all authors prior to deletion. Users may delete their own accounts at any time through their user dashboard on GCS platforms, however using this process may result in the retention of certain User data on GCS platforms and in the Drupal/CiviCRM databases.
7.3. From time to time, ACS or Skvare LLC may undertake regular maintenance and/or cleaning of data, including but not limited to archiving of unused or obsolete data, removal of duplicate data, and updates to software and modules that may require data maintenance and/or cleanup. If such activities impact the regular User access or experience on GCS platforms, every attempt will be made to notify Users in advance, however, ACS and Skvare LLC cannot guarantee timely communication in every instance. As such, Users providing data to GCS platforms accept the risk that their data may change, be removed, or be modified at any time without prior notification. ACS and Skvare LLC retain the right to delete any and all data on GCS platforms at any time, without prior warning or consultation with Users.
8. GCS Platforms Accessibility
8.1. ACS is committed to providing online offerings that are accessible to the widest possible audience regardless of technology or ability. ACS is actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of its online offerings. ACS is committed to making GCS platforms usable by all people by meeting or exceeding the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 Level AA (WCAG 2.1 AA).
8.2. While ACS strives to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so. If you are currently experiencing any issues with GCS platforms, have specific questions or concerns about accessibility or need assistance in using the processes within GCS platforms please email us at [email protected]. If you do encounter an accessibility issue, please be sure to specify the URL of the Web page or specific platform offering and we will make all reasonable efforts to make that Web page or platform offering accessible.
9. Code of Conduct
9.1. GCS Code of Conduct provides guidance on acceptable as well as prohibited behaviors on GCS platforms and the potential consequences of prohibited behaviors by users on GCS platforms. All users wishing to access GCS platforms must accept these Terms and the GCS Code of Conduct before registering for an account to fully access GCS platforms.
10. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES; LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
10.1. YOUR USE OF GCS PLATFORMS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
10.2. GCS PLATFORMS ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR OTHER VIOLATION OF RIGHTS. ACS DOES NOT WARRANT THE ADEQUACY, CURRENCY, ACCURACY, LIKELY RESULTS, OR COMPLETENESS OF GCS PLATFORMS, OR ANY GOOD, SERVICE, OR INFORMATION, OR ANY THIRD-PARTY SITES LINKED TO, PROVIDED ON, OR OBTAINED FROM GCS PLATFORMS, OR THAT THE FUNCTIONS PROVIDED WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, VIRUS-FREE, OR ERROR-FREE.
10.3. ACS EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ANY LIABILITY FOR ANY ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN THE CONTENT INCLUDED IN GCS PLATFORMS OR ANY THIRD-PARTY SITES LINKED TO OR FROM GCS PLATFORMS. SOME JURISDICTIONS MAY NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
10.4. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL ACS OR ITS SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, PARTNERS, DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND ASSIGNS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT OR INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, LOST PROFITS, OR OTHER DAMAGES WHATSOEVER ARISING IN CONNECTION WITH THE ACCESS TO AND USE OF GCS PLATFORMS, ANY INTERRUPTION IN AVAILABILITY OF GCS PLATFORMS, DELAY IN OPERATION OR TRANSMISSION, COMPUTER VIRUS, LOSS OF DATA, OR USE, MISUSE, RELIANCE, REVIEW, MANIPULATION, OR OTHER UTILIZATION IN ANY MANNER WHATSOEVER OF GCS PLATFORMS OR THE DATA COLLECTED THROUGH GCS PLATFORMS, EVEN IF ONE OR MORE OF THEM HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES OR LOSS.
10.5. ACS DOES NOT WARRANT, ENDORSE, GUARANTEE, OR ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY PRODUCT OR SERVICE ADVERTISED OR OFFERED THROUGH GCS PLATFORMS, AND ACS WILL NOT BE PARTY TO OR IN ANY WAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MONITORING ANY TRANSACTION BETWEEN YOU AND THIRD-PARTY PROVIDERS OF PRODUCTS OR SERVICES.
11. INDEMNIFICATION
11.1. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY, DEFEND AND HOLD ACS, AND ITS SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, PARTNERS, DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, MEMBERS, CUSTOMERS, AGENTS AND ASSIGNS HARMLESS FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL LOSS, COSTS, EXPENSES (INCLUDING REASONABLE ATTORNEYS’ FEES AND EXPENSES), CLAIMS, DAMAGES AND LIABILITIES RELATED TO OR ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR USE OF GCS PLATFORMS AND ANY ALLEGED VIOLATION BY YOU OF THESE TERMS.
11.2. ACS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ASSUME THE EXCLUSIVE DEFENSE OF ANY CLAIM FOR WHICH ACS IS ENTITLED TO INDEMNIFICATION UNDER THIS SECTION. IN SUCH EVENT, YOU SHALL PROVIDE ACS WITH SUCH COOPERATION AS ACS REASONABLY REQUESTS.
12. U.S. Copyright Infringement Claims
12.1. If you believe in good faith that your work has been reproduced or is accessible on GCS platforms in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, please provide our designated agent, [email protected], with the following information in writing:
12.1.1. identification of the copyrighted work or a representative list of copyrighted works claimed to have been infringed;
12.1.2. identification of the allegedly infringing material and information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate the material;
12.1.3. your name, address and daytime telephone number, and an e-mail address if available, so that we may contact you if necessary;
12.1.4. a statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed;
12.1.5. a statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
12.1.6. a physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

12.3. Upon receipt of a notice of claimed infringement (or any statement in conformance with 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)), ACS will expeditiously remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing content. We will terminate the privileges of users who repeatedly infringe copyright. Please note that United States law provides significant penalties for falsely submitting a notice of copyright infringement.
13. Termination
13.1. ACS reserves the right to discontinue, modify, and alter any and all expects of GCS platforms at any time and without notice.
13.2. ACS reserves the right to immediately terminate your access to GCS platforms if ACS determines that you are in breach of the Terms.
14. Choice of Law and Forum
14.1. GCS platforms are primarily intended for use by residents of the United States. You agree that GCS platforms shall be deemed solely based in the District of Columbia.
14.2. GCS platforms shall be deemed a passive website that does not give rise to personal jurisdiction over ACS, either specific or general, In jurisdictions other than the District of Columbia, and by accepting the Terms you are submitting yourself to the jurisdiction of the laws of the District of Columbia, U.S.A. for any issues related to the Terms and/or your use of GCS platforms and/or your transactions with ACS.
14.3. These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the District of Columbia without respect to its conflict of laws principles. Any claim or dispute between you and ACS that arises in whole or in part from GCS platforms shall be decided by a court of competent jurisdiction located in the District of Columbia. These Terms, together with any other ACS legal notices published on GCS platforms, shall constitute the entire agreement between you and ACS considering the GCS platforms.
14.4. To the fullest extent permitted under applicable law, you and ACS agree that any cause of action arising out of related to GCS platforms must commence within one (1) year after a cause of action arises. Otherwise, such cause of action is permanently time barred.
15. General Terms
15.1. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and ACS, superseding any prior or contemporaneous communications and proposals (whether oral, written or electronic) between you and ACS.
15.2. In the event any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, it will not affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions and will be replaced by an enforceable provision that comes closest to the intention underlying the unenforceable provision.
15.3. You agree that no joint venture, partnership, employment, or agency relationship exists between you and ACS as a result of these Terms or your access to and use of GCS platforms.
15.4. No waiver of any terms of these Terms shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or any other term, and ACS’s failure to assert any right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
15.5. When ACS updates the Terms, ACS will update the “Effective Date” date at the top of this page. Your use of GCS platforms following any amendment of these Terms will confirm your consent to and acceptance of its revised terms.

Code of Conduct

Purpose and Scope
This Code of Conduct (the “Code of Conduct”) outlines the expectations for all who participate on the GCS site (www.chemistryforsustainability.org) and its related platforms (the “GCS platforms”), as well as the potential consequences for behavior that violates this Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct applies in all cases and covers any activity conducted on GCS platforms. All users on GCS platforms are expected to ensure safe and positive experiences for all participants. This Code of Conduct defines “participant” as anyone connected in any manner on GCS platforms.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS CODE OF CONDUCT IS NOT INTENDED TO, AND SHOULD NOT PREVENT OR SUPERSEDE THE CONTACTING OF, SECURITY OR LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL IN CIRCUMSTANCES THAT WOULD WARRANT SUCH ACTIONS.
Expected Behavior
All participants are expected to adhere to the following rules:
- Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
- Promote open competition and comply with antitrust and related laws by not discussing restraints of trade, prices, pricing policies, terms and conditions of purchase or sale, costs, future company plans, boycotting of customers or products, or any other topics that might be considered anti-competitive in nature.
- Do not attack others. The discussions within GCS platforms are meant to stimulate conversation not to create contention.
- Only post commercial messages, promotional materials, special offers, job postings, product announcements, or solicitations for services in designated areas on GCS platforms. Direct messaging of commercial messages is strictly prohibited. We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to remove such messages and potentially ban sources of those solicitations.
- Use caution when discussing experiences. Information posted on GCS platforms is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, antitrust and other laws.
- Avoid discussions pertaining to politics, religion, and those including sexual content.
- All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited and will be removed.
- Do not discuss administrative actions or personal inquiries on online forums.
- Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not anyone to know came from you.
- Do not post any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner.
- Remember that all participants have the right to reproduce postings.
Some general tips to help you maintain good etiquette when reproducing content
- Be courteous. Please ask participants for permission to republish their words elsewhere (especially if elsewhere would be a publicly viewable setting).
- When citing discussions, please include a link back to the original discussion or to the applicable website.
- Respect legitimate intellectual property rights. Do not plagiarize work and give credit to the originators of ideas.
Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include conduct or media/electronic postings that include or are characterized by:
- Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, or demeaning actions or speech.
- Derogatory verbal or written comments or images related to gender, sexual orientation, sexual preference, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, race, ancestry, religion, national origin, political orientation, socioeconomic, disability or ability status, age, or other personal characteristics, including those protected by law.
- Inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images.
- Deliberate intimidation or stalking.
- Violating the rules and regulations of the respective online provider, as applicable.
- Sustained disruption of discussion or events.
- Unwelcome sexual attention, requests for sexual favors, or other unwelcome physical, verbal, visual or other similar conduct of a sexual nature.
- Harassing photography, recording, or electronic communications, including logging online activity for harassment purposes.
- Photographing or reproducing slides of presentations, sessions and posters without permission.
- Real or implied threat of harm or violence.
- Real or implied threat of professional or financial harm.
- Pattern of inappropriate social contact, such as requesting/assuming inappropriate levels of intimacy with others.
- “Trolling” i.e., posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages in virtual platforms.
- Unauthorized spamming or solicitation, with the exception of personal, one-on-one communications through the designated areas on GCS platforms, as applicable.
- Failure to cease unacceptable behavior when requested.
Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behavior by any participant will not be tolerated. Any participant who is asked to stop such unacceptable behavior will be expected to comply immediately. If a participant continues to engage in unacceptable behavior, we may take any lawful action it deems appropriate, including, but not limited to:
- Immediate removal or termination of access to such participant from GCS platforms without warning.
- Restriction from participation on GCS platforms.
If You Are the Target of Unacceptable Behavior
If you are the target of unacceptable behavior or have any other concerns related to witnessing unacceptable behavior, please notify us at the Contact information provided at www.chemistryforsustainability.org. In addition, and if possible, we request to be provided with the following information:
- Identifying information of the individual engaging in the unacceptable behavior
- A description of the unacceptable behavior
- The approximate time and place/manner of the behavior
Grievances
Anyone who believes that they have been falsely or unfairly accused of violating this Code of Conduct should notify us at the Contact information provided at www.chemistryforsustainability.org and provide a concise statement of grievance. All grievances will be fully investigated.
No Retaliation
Threats or acts of retaliation against participants who report inappropriate conduct pursuant to this Code of Conduct or provide information in connection with a report by another individual will not be tolerated. In the event you believe that you have been retaliated against for such action, you should use the above procedures to report the pertinent facts promptly. We will investigate and take appropriate action in the manner described above.

Do not post any information or other material protected by copyright without permission. By posting material, the participant warrants and represents that they own the copyright with respect to such material or has received permission from the copyright owner. In addition, participants grant the nonexclusive right and license to display, copy, publish, and distribute, transmit, print, and use such information or other materials.
