Green Analytical Chemistry Short Course at PittCon

This short course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the principles of green chemistry and their application to chemical analysis. The course will begin by discussing principles of green chemistry and engineering as a supporting pillar of sustainable development. Metrics for evaluating the “greenness” of analytical methods are presented. Solvent selection and alternative solvents are discussed. Application of green principles to chemical separations and spectroscopy are introduced. Case studies will be presented to exemplify these green chemistry applications.

The Green Chemistry Toolkit was developed under the Global Green Chemistry Initiative – a project led by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in partnership with the Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering at Yale University.

Masterclass on Sustainable Chemistry – Business Opportunities and Sustainability Check

What will you learn? In the on-demand ISC3 Masterclass, basic concepts of Sustainable Chemistry are presented. Start-ups also learn, why a clear and plausible sustainability profile is important for start-ups. Furthermore, the ISC3 experts will introduce the ISC3 Sustainability Checklist for Sustainable Chemistry changemakers and explain the business opportunities when the underlying sustainability criteria are addressed. The Masterclass also includes a practical part, where the start-ups will explore which sustainability criteria could be prioritized and/or addressed.

Plastics and Sustainable Building Certificate

What will you learn? ISC3 has compiled all its knowledge on the topic of plastics and sustainable building in the form of a self-paced E-learning course. Describe how Sustainable Chemistry can make buildings sustainable. Estimate the hidden costs in a building’s life cycle. Create sustainable solutions for developing countries based on resilient buildings utilising local materials. Draft a strategy to substitute hazardous additives or to keep exposures and releases as low as possible.
