The Amazonian Institute of Scientific Research SINCHI is a Colombian government entity dedicated to generating scientific knowledge, innovation, and technologies to understand the biological, ecological, cultural, and social reality of the Colombian Amazon. The SINCHI Institute has the mission of generating, integrating, and disseminating strategic information that supports the sustainable use of natural resources, the conservation of Amazonian heritage, and the well being of local communities. To achieve this purpose, it conducts high level research, promotes social appropriation of knowledge, and strengthens local and territorial capacities. Its vision is to consolidate itself as a leading institution in environmental research applied to the Amazon, recognized for scientific quality and for its impact on decision making related to the protection and management of the territory. The SINCHI Institute has a broad territorial presence that enables direct work with ecosystems, communities, and regional stakeholders. It operates offices in Leticia, where the main headquarters is located, and also in Florencia, San Jose del Guaviare, Mitu, Puerto Leguizamo, Puerto Asis, Inirida, and an administrative liaison office in Bogota. From these locations, it develops research programs on ecosystems and natural resources, sustainability and intervention, ecological functioning models, and socio environmental dynamics. Its work includes biodiversity inventories, environmental monitoring, participatory research, productive strengthening, sustainable use alternatives, and socio ecological analyses, integrating science, technology, and community based management to support sustainable development in the Colombian Amazon.
