Agroloop is a sustainable startup using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) insects to produce high-quality insect-based protein. With approximately 30% of global food production going unused, Agroloop repurposes industrial-scale by-products with valuable nutritional content. By mimicking natural processes, Agroloop transforms these resources into environmentally friendly solutions without pollution.
The Agroloop Process
- Value Creation
Food by-products such as whole fruits, vegetables, or packaged items are processed into homogenous raw materials. These are then pureed, treated to preserve freshness, and optimized to accelerate larval growth. - Hatchery and Rearing
- Hatching: Eggs are incubated until larvae emerge, after which they are pre-farmed and transferred to rearing blocks a few days later.
- Rearing: Larvae are fed a specialized diet to enhance strength and resistance. In the breeding block, adult flies mate and lay eggs. A portion of the colony is reserved for reproduction to sustain production. Once larvae reach optimal size, they are harvested.
- Harvesting and Processing
- Compost Separation: Larval digestive residue, a nutrient-rich soil conditioner, is collected for further treatment.
- Larvae Processing: Larvae are washed, neutralized, and dried. Post-drying, they undergo oil extraction and grinding to produce high-protein meal.
