Alfred Werner Scholarship Program

Master of Science Studies of Chemistry in Switzerland

The program supports highly talented international students who earned their BSc degree at a university outside Switzerland to perform their Master of Science (MSc) studies at a Swiss University or at one of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology in Chemistry, Biochemistry or the Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Investigation of enhanced adhesion of HEK293T cells on SAM-modified ITO surfaces using NMR metabolomics

The use of glass substrates to enhance cellular adhesion exemplifies the principles of green and sustainable chemistry in practice. Upcycling waste glass into a valuable resource mitigates environmental pollution, promotes innovation, and conserves resources. The Human embryonic kidney 293T (HEK293T) cells have been used in organoid formation and specialized applications within organoid systems; however, they often suffer from loose adherence, which limits their applicability.

Medicinal Chemistry: A Key Driver in Achieving the Global Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, the United Nations officially launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as “the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. The 17 Goals are all interconnected, in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve them all by 2030”. Here, we have embedded medicinal chemistry as a key player to achieve SDGs.
