ferric thiocyanate

Ferric thiocyanate

Ferric thiocyanate (Fe(SCN)₃) is a red, water-soluble iron(III) thiocyanate complex, with a molar mass of ~230.09 g/mol. When dissolved in aqueous medium with thiocyanate (SCN⁻) and Fe³⁺, it forms the characteristic blood-red complex ion [FeSCN]²⁺, making it a classical reagent for colorimetric detection of Fe³⁺ ions.
