Renewable Ethyl Acetate

Viridis Chemical Company has developed a method for producing renewable ethyl acetate from bioethanol, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional ethyl acetate, typically derived from non-renewable fossil feedstocks such as coal or natural gas. This process uses a solid-state catalyst, enabling the reclamation of constituents at the end of life. During the dehydration of bioethanol, hydrogen gas is generated as a byproduct, contributing to approximately 40% of the energy required for the facility’s operations.

Environmentally Friendly Adhesives for Wood Composites

Soy flour-based adhesives for wood composites. Adhesives for wood composites traditionally contain formaldehyde, which is a carcinogen. This technology is inspired by mussels' ability to use their proteins to adhere to rocks. Professor Kaichang Li modified the amino acids in soy flour, which is renewable and abundant, to resemble the adhesive proteins of mussels. Oregon State University, Columbia Forest Products, and Ashland Inc jointly-commericalized this novel adhesive. This novel adhesive is environmentally friendly, cost-competititve, and superior in strength and water resistance.

Citropol® and Sustainable Ingredients

Ingredients for flavors, fragrances, cosmetics, personal care products, and specialty materials. P2 Science transformers terpenes from the forest and oleochemicals from the field into safe, renewable, high performance, biodegradable, and multi-functional new ingredients for flavors, fragrances, cosmetics, personal care products, and specialty materials. Citropol® is a novel class of low MW liquid polymers that are made from 100% forest-derived terpenes through a clean, mild, and high yielding conversion process.

ZEORORA® H/HTA

Fluorinated, nonflammable, environmentally friendly solvent. ZEORORA® H is a nonflammable and environmentally friendly solvent for a variety of applications.  ZEORORA® H/HTA is a cleaning solvent and functions as an alternative to HCFC-225 and nPB. This solvent has zero ozone depletion potential, minimal global warming potential, and a short atmospheric lifetime. It is also thermally stable, easy to recover, and has a high boiling point and low consumption.

Zeta Fraction™

Separates live plants or algae into various bioactive components. This technology uses colloidal chemistry to gently separate live plants or algae into various bioactive components (Zeta Fractions) without solvents and with minimal energy consumption.

Bio Gen Active® Scale 131 offshore

Acidic cleaning agent. Scale 131 offshore is an effective, highly concentrated acidic cleaning agent for Cleaning in Place (CIP) operations at offshore water-borne systems that is mild to users, materials, and the environment. It is classified as PLONOR (Possess Little Or No Risk to the Environment). This product is composed of biodegradable Bio Gen Active® and fruit acids. Traditional corrosion inhibitors are hazardous and negatively impact the environment.

Cyclopentyl Methyl Ether (CPME)

Hydrophobic ether solvent with applications in reactions, extraction, crystallization, polymerization, and coatings. CPME is a widely applicable replacement for Tetrahydrofuran (THF), Methyl Tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE), Dioxane, and other solvents. CPME can be used in reactions, extractions, crystallizations, polymerizations, and coatings. CPME is hydrophobic and quick drying, functions at a wide range of temperatures, and has a low heat of vaporization and exothermic decomposition energy.

Synbiochem

Synthetic biology of fine and specialty chemicals for products and intermediates in drug development, agrochemistry, and sustainable bio-manufacturing. Synbiochem uses a Design-Build-Test-Learn (D/B/T/L) pipeline in their chemical production. They design novel enzymes, pathways, and chassis; build multiple pathways in host cassis using automated assembly; test and evaluate these pathways using advanced optimized ultra high-throughput (HTP) screening and analytical methods; and learn methods to inform re-design and optimization. This pipeline allows for rapid prototyping and scalability.
