Greener Quantum Dot Synthesis

Higher quality quantum dots for LED screens that use much less toxic feedstock. This technology replaces the traditional centrifugation method with filtration and uses less toxic solvents. Conventional methods of producing LED screens make substantial use of toxic solvents and are inefficient. This new technology could potentially reduce the use of toxic solvents by 150,000 liters per year in the United States. This technology is also more efficient, reducing energy usage.

Biocatalytic Process for the Synthesis of Esters for the Cosmetic Industry

Biocatalytic process for the synthesis of esters. Esters are important ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products. Traditional esters manufacturing requires strong acids and potentially hazardous solvents and produces undesirable byproducts that require energy-intensive purification. Using immobilized enzymes at mild temperatures as an alternative, Eastmen saves energy and avoids dangerous chemicals. This process produces no undesirable by-products, and the enzymes are easily removable via filtration.

Safer, Sustainable, Biodegradable, Solid-State Chemistry for Treat Cooling Water Systems

Solid chemistry water treatment. Solid chemistry replaces the heavy, hazardous drums of liquid chemistry used in water treatment. Solid chemistry eliminates the splashing and spilling of liquids, making delivery safer, cleaner, and easier. This technology is more cost-effective as it reduces shipping costs and eliminates expensive storage constraints and disposal fees. The process is also sustainable as it is composed of only biodegradable materials and eliminates dangerous spills and contributions to landfills.

Optimyze®: Enzyme that Improves Paper Recycling

Enzymes that prevent contaminants, or stickies, from agglomerating and interfering with recycling, pulp, and paper machine operations. Stickies downgrade quality, reduce output, and cost the pulp and paper industry tens of millions of dollars annually. Optimyze® prevents stickies from agglomerating and interfering with recycling, pulp, and paper machine operations, reducing downtime, producing packing with improved quality, and increasing profits. This technology uses an esterase enzyme that serves as a catalyst for the hydrolysis of stickies into poly, a water-soluble polymer.

The Plantrose® Process

The Plantrose® Process is a water-based technology platform that converts plants into powerful ingredients. It converts water to a supercritical state to break down plants into foundational ingredients that can be used for various applications. The plants that are used in this process are sustainably grown and harvested. The ingredients from these broken down plants can be used in everyday consumer products and industrial applications. Using water instead of other chemicals also lowers costs.

Natular® Larvicide: Encapsulated Spinosad

Encapsulated Spinosad. While Spinosad is a popular, more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional pesticides, it degrades quickly in water and thus cannot be used to eliminate mosquito larvae. This product aims to combat the flaws of Spinosad, utilizing a matrix that protects the molecule of Spinosad and slowly releases the pesticide into the aquatic environment. Although Spinosad remains unstable, its lifespan in water increases to up to 180 days, improving its aquatic efficiency.
