About the Course

A comprehensive 90-minute course for learners embarking on a general chemistry lab sequence. Includes 6 self-paced modules designed to expose students to the concepts of risk assessment, good laboratory practices, and personal responsibility for safety along with foundational concepts in chemical safety before performing experiments in the teaching laboratory. Using the RAMP framework, an acronym for the foundational four principles of lab safety (recognize, assess, minimize, prepare), the course offers an engaging learning experience to prepare learners to work safely as they enter the lab for the first time.

What You Will Learn

  • Identify your role in maintaining a positive safety culture
  • Recognize common laboratory hazards using observation, GHS pictograms, labeling, and safety data sheets
  • Assess and minimize the risks of those hazards using best practices
  • Prepare for and respond to common unplanned events and emergencies
