Battolyser® is a novel technology that combines the functionality of a battery and an electrolyzer in a single, patented system. It efficiently stores and supplies power like a battery while also splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen when fully charged. This dual-functionality makes Battolyser® a highly versatile and efficient energy solution, capable of switching smoothly between power storage and hydrogen production.
This flexibility allows it to respond to both daily and seasonal energy imbalances: the battery function monetizes short-term fluctuations in power demand, while the hydrogen produced helps offset longer-term imbalances and provides essential feedstock for industries that cannot rely on electrification.
Key features of Battolyser® include its ability to operate below 0% state of charge, its high conversion efficiency, and the capability to sell power back to the grid. The system is built from abundant materials such as iron and non-battery-grade nickel electrodes, enhancing its affordability and sustainability. Unlike conventional electrolyzers, Battolyser® uses stable nickel and iron electrodes with a regenerative catalyst that minimizes electrochemical degradation, extending the system’s efficiency and lifespan. Additionally, the low operating temperature and alkaline electrolyte further contribute to the longevity and reliability of the system.
Highly efficient and scalable, Battolyser® is an ideal solution for industrial applications, grid stabilization, and the decarbonization of heavy industries and transportation sectors.
