Supercritical CO2 Technology

Qarboon (ex-Dense Fluid Degreasing) specializes in sustainable, environmentally friendly industrial processes through its advanced supercritical CO2 technology. This technology is utilized in various applications, including the decontamination and sterilization of medical devices, bulk textile finishing, and degreasing/departiculation of mechanical parts using high-speed cleaning. Qarboon's machines are designed to be user-friendly, compact, and efficient, allowing for widespread accessibility.

The operating process begins with liquid CO2 sourced externally. Parts are loaded into an autoclave on a rotating platform, either manually or via robotic automation. The liquid CO2 is then pressurized and heated above its critical point, transitioning into a supercritical state where it behaves both as a liquid and gas. This unique state allows the CO2 to effectively solubilize fats and other contaminants from porous materials. The addition of oscillation and/or rotation, and of ultrasound enables better results to be obtained in extracting vegetable substances or in departiculating metal parts. Pollutants are separated through gravity stages, allowing for the recovery of pure extracts while the CO2 is recycled within the system. Qarboon's machines are capable of recycling 90-99% of the CO2 for subsequent cycles.

Supercritical CO2 is a green solvent—non-toxic, non-flammable, chemically inert, and non-corrosive. It’s odorless, colorless, and free from VOC emissions or co-distillation risks, making it an eco-friendly solution that complies with REACH regulations. The process is water-free, eliminating the need for drying, and is suitable for treating all metals and most polymers, particularly those with complex geometries.
