Aura Verde LDA is a Mozambican circular bioeconomy company dedicated to transforming coconut husk waste into high performance, environmentally responsible materials for pollution prevention, environmental restoration and regenerative agriculture. Located in the coconut rich Inhambane Province, Aura Verde works hand in hand with local communities to source coconut husks and convert 100 per cent of this biomass into value added, bio based products through low energy, chemical free processing. Our flagship innovation is a biodegradable coco peat oil absorbent engineered for low impact hydrocarbon remediation. Derived from lignocellulosic coconut peat, the sorbent has a naturally porous structure composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, enabling rapid uptake kinetics and strong affinity for nonpolar hydrocarbons. With an absorption capacity of up to ten times its own weight, the material provides an efficient, renewable alternative to synthetic polymer sorbents used in industrial spill management. Because it is fully organic and compatible with hydrocarbonclastic bacteria, the used sorbent can be integrated into microbially enhanced bioremediation, allowing hydrocarbons to be degraded safely and returning the peat to natural systems without long term ecological burden. Beyond absorbents, Aura Verde fractionates coconut husk into sustainable products: coir logs for erosion control, coir fibers for green construction and insulation, ropes, mulch mats and regenerative soil inputs, ensuring complete biomass utilization and preventing waste. Through our Ouro Verde reforestation initiative, we distribute and plant free coconut seedlings in rural communities to restore tree cover, secure future biomass supply and strengthen climate resilience. Aura Verde shows how sustainable chemistry, circular design and community based value chains can create affordable and scalable solutions for environmental protection.
