Degradation

Textile Fiber from Wood Pulp

Textile fiber out of pulp used for making paper (micro fibrillated cellulose) with the strength and qualities of cotton and the insulation of lamb's wool. Fiber can be upcycled several times without losing quality. Fiber can be dyed before the spinning phase, reducing water use by 99% and eliminating harmful chemicals in the dyeing process. Reduced CO2 emissions, 100% biodegradable, and free of microplastics. Wood obtained from FSC and/or PEFC-certified tree farms.

BioPrep®

Enzymatic scouring, or BioPreparation™, for the pretreatment of cotton knits, woven yarn, and towels. Uses pectinase to remove pectin and wax from cotton fiber, producing fabrics with instant absorbency for even dyeing. Water savings up to 67%, time savings up to 50%, and energy savings up to 50% compared to traditional pre-treatment. Saves to energy and water by removing the need for separate handling and optimization of wetting agents and emulsifiers. Eliminates harsh chemicals used in traditional scouring, such as strong alkaline & bleaching chemicals.

Rhamnolipids JBR Series Biosurfactant

Natural rhamnolipids, or co-surfactant systems, for bioremediation applications and crude oil recovery. These rhamnolipid biosurfactants can facilitate the removal of hydrocarbons and heavy metals, making them effective in remediating soil and sludge. These rhamnolipids also contain a synergistic activity with many synthetic surfactants, resulting in a reduction in synthetic surfactant components. They are also biodegradable, with decompositions that are non-persistent and safe for the environment.

RE-HEALING™ RF Foam

Halogen-free firefighting surfactant. RE-HEALING™ RF3 is a fluorosurfactant and fluoropolymer-free foam concentrate that effectively extinguishes Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires. It can be used in fresh, salt, or brackish water. These surfactants have a high rate of degradation and perform equal or superior to those in conventional firefighting foams. It is also easy to integrate into existing systems. Conventional firefighting foams use fluorinated surfactants, which are persistent, toxic, and bioaccumulative.

Paptic® Packaging Materials

Packaging material made of renewable wood fibers. Paptic® is bio-based, recyclable, reusable, and biodegradable. It outperforms paper and has smaller environmental impact than cotton. The material is also distinctive in its texture and appearance. Paptic® is made using renewable, wood-based fibers from sustainably managed forests. Paptic® is produced using current paper machines that require slight modifications, making the process sustainable and scalable. Paptic is tear resistant, moisture resistant, flexible, soft, food contact approved, and porous.

TIPA Compostable Packaging

Fully compostable packaging. This technology emulates the properties and functionality of conventional plastic such as polyethylene and polypropylene, while being made from a blend of fully compostable polymers. This packaging demonstrates excellent optical, mechanical, and barrier properties (high transparency, printability, high sealing strength, high impact, and high barrier). The packaging is certified home or industrial compostable. The laminates and labels of the packaging are also compostable.

GLDA — A Biodegradable Chelating Agent

Biodegradable chelating agents. Chelating agents (NTA and EDTA) are used in industrial, domestic, and agricultural industries for complex metals. Traditional chelating agents are not biodegradable and accumulate in aquatic systems, harming human health and the environment. Aquapharm has made biodegradable chelates with applications in industrial cleaning, food processing, personal care, kitchen cleaning, textiles, water treatment, automatic dishwashing, and pulp and paper. One of Aquapharm's chelants, GLDA, is a viable substitute for NTA and EDTA.

Sustainable High-Performing Biopolymers

Sustainable biopolymers. EcoMer® is a family of VOC-free, bio-based monomers created from glucose derived from sustainable sources. EcoMer can be copolymerized with conventional vinyl monomers to produce polymers that can be used in pressure-sensitive adhesives. EcoStix® —a family of sugar-acrylic, pressure-sensitive adhesives — incorporates EcoMer technology. EcoStix is recyclable and repulpable. EcoSphere® Biolatex® binders are used in the paper and paperboard industry. They are lower cost, better quality, more productive, and superior in performance to traditional binders.

Degradable Biosolvents from Renewable Feedstock

Bio-based green solvents for formulating and cleaning. These sustainable, bio-based solvents and solvent blends are derived from corn, soybeans, citrus, and other renewable feedstocks. These biosolvents are based on ethyl lactate, fatty acid methyl esters, d-limonene, and ethanol. The main ingredient is VertecBio EL Ethyl LActate, an ester solvent derived from corn or sugar beets. They can be used in agricultural and industrial applications. Biosolvents can be used to form environmentally friendly herbicides, pesticides, and growth enhancers.

Sea-Nine™

Marine antifoulant to control plant and animal growth on ship hulls. Traditional antifoulants are acutely and chronically toxic, bioaccumulate, decrease reproductive viability, and increase the shell thickness of shellfish. The Sea-Nine antifoulant (4,5-dichloro-2-n-octyl-4isothiazolin-3-one) degrades rapidly (one day in seawater and one hour in sediment) and has essentially zero bioaccumulation.
