Skycycle™

CarbonFree’s SkyCycle™ technology is a groundbreaking solution for capturing CO2 emissions from hard-to-abate industrial sources and transforming them into valuable, carbon-negative products. SkyCycle™ captures carbon emissions before they enter the atmosphere, decarbonizes, and mineralizes the CO2, converting it into marketable, non-hazardous materials or permanently storable compounds. This process yields significant carbon value, helping to reduce global supply chain emissions, particularly Scope 3 emissions.

SkyCycle™ produces precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), a material that can be used in various industries, including paper, plastics, building materials, paint, and personal care products. The calcium carbonate can also be stored safely without the need for pipelines or disposal wells, offering a sustainable and decentralized carbon capture solution that minimizes infrastructure requirements.

The technology is highly scalable and can be integrated into a wide range of industrial sites, allowing manufacturers to implement carbon capture directly at their facilities. This flexibility makes SkyCycle™ an essential tool for industries aiming to achieve carbon neutrality while benefiting from the economic and environmental advantages of reduced carbon emissions.

A significant application of SkyCycle™ is underway at U.S. Steel’s facility in Gary, Indiana, where up to 50,000 metric tons of CO2 will be captured and mineralized annually. This project, the first commercial-scale carbon capture utilization plant at a steel facility in North America, is setting a new standard for sustainable steel manufacturing and contributing to a greener future.
