Archer RC™: Technology for Coatings with Reduced VOC Content

Fatty acid ester alcohol that acts as a coalescing agent and reactive diluent in alkyd and latex paints. This product is based on sustainable technology and uses renewable triglycerides (unsaturated fatty acid) as feedstock. These renewable triglycerides facilitate film formation and remain as part of the coating by incorporating the VOCs into the paint coating as fatty acid esters. The product is made by the interestification of vegetable oil fatty acid esters and propylene glycol to monoesters of the fatty acids.

Primer Paints for Automobiles Developed with a Urethan Acylate Oligomer Primer

UV-curable, one-component, low VOC automobile paint primer. This primer is made through a new urethane acrylate oligomer primer system. The primer cures in minutes from UV light, which is ten times faster than conventional urethane technologies. The primer requires fewer preparation steps, has a lower application rate, is more durable, controls corrosion better, and has an unlimited shelf life. This automobile paint primer contains less than half the amount of VOCs in conventional primers and is diisocyanate-free (a major source of occupational asthma).

Water-Based Acrylic Alkyd Paints

Alkyd paint from recycled plastic bottles (PET), acrylics, and soybean oil with low concentrations of VOCs. Traditional alkyd paints are made with a solvent-borne coating and constituents of the petroleum industry. PET is incorporated in a polymeric alkyd-acrylic dispersion (LAAD), which gives the paint more rigidity, hardness, and hydrolytic resistance. Acrylic decreases the drying time and increases durability. Soybean oil stimulates film formation and improves floss, flexibility, and paint cure.

FARADAYIC® Trichrome Plating Process

Chrome plating with trivalent chromium. Conventional chrome plating uses hexavalent chromium. Hexavalent chromium is the most toxic form of chromium due to its carcinogenic properties. This technology uses trivalent chromium, which is much less toxic and non-carcinogenic. This company uses a new electrodeposition process alternating between a cathodic pulse followed by an anodic pulse and a relaxation period. This process allows for thicker coatings of trivalent chromium and allows the structure and properties of the coating to be adjusted.

Novasep's Custom Molecules

Custom techniques for manufacturing products. By utilizing custom techniques for their products, Novasep is able to make their processes more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly by enabling synthesis through shorter routes with improved purity and yield. This also allows for solvent recycling, which lowers costs and reduces consumption.

Energy Efficient and Environmentally Friendly Ultrasound Homogenizers

High-power ultrasonic homogenizers. Ultrasonic power is an effective and energy-efficient alternative to high-shear mixers, high-pressure homogenizers, and agitated bead mills. It is used to apply high shear and intense stress to liquids, powder-liquid mixtures, and slurries. This device is used for mixing, dispersing, particle size reduction, extraction, and chemical reactions. This extraction process generates no impurities or hazardous chemicals. Liquid regeneration also allows for prolonged use of cleaning liquids.

ULTIMER™

Eliminates the use of oil and surfactants in water treatment. Polyacrylamides are used in water treatment and food production. In water treatment, polyacrylamides facilitate the removal of compounds in suspension and the segregation of the mixture. The production of these polymers generates large volumes of organic and surfactant waste (90 million pounds annually) due to the use of oils and surfactants. Nalco developed a new synthetic methodology that eliminates the need for oil and surfactants in water treatment.

FGF2-STAB® -- Growth Factors for Cultured Meat

Engineered growth factors for cultured meat production. Enantis engineers high-performance proteins and enzymes. One of their main areas of expertise is the development of cost-effective growth factors specifically designed for cultured meat production. Cultured meat is genuine meat but lab-grown by cultivating animal cells. With this process, the industry can replicate real meat's sensory and nutritional profiles while avoiding the environmental and animal welfare impacts of traditional meat production.

Oriental Yeast Company Dough Improver and Biotechnology Products

Creates products through technologies derived from yeast production and focuses on yeast-related biotechnology applications and research. Oriental Yeast Company produces recombinant enzymes, recombinant human proteins, coenzymes, and substrates to improve crop yields, develop vaccines, and also offer customized dough improvers. Customizing dough for each client allows clients to maximize food quality while lowering costs and ingredient waste. Some of Oriental Yeast Company's coenzymes are used in manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) through biocatalysis.

NovaLipid™ and Lipozyme®

Enzymatic interesterification for producing edible fats and oils that contain no trans fatty acids. Archer Daniels Midland Company and Novozymes have created enzymatic interesterification to replace chemical interestification processes. Trans fatty acids are a strong risk factor for heart disease. Trans fatty acids are formed during the hydrogenation process and are found in high concentrations in various foods. Interesterification is the most effective way to decrease trans fat content in food without adversely manipulating it.
